How's It Going to End
An existential examination on the end of all things and TV shows I abandoned
Why am I here? The crowd in my brain says I’m procrastinating on the script I’m writing. And the job search. The crowd has a point, but I’m here so we’re doing it. Back in the day, I had a blog on Blogger, it’s been dormant for ages and was loosely focused on movies, tv and there were “Mixtape Mondays” [none of the links work anymore :( ].
I’m going to use this space to talk about the shows I was really into but never finished, like Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder. I’m going to get to them and somehow I managed not to get spoiled, very ostrich-like behavior. I didn’t realize until this week that I hadn’t watched the last season of Fringe until a recent rewatch and it was all new. Always happy to see Anna Torv, that said, the last season was rough.
Speaking of rough, what’s your favorite post-apocalyptic story? Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, the MaddAddam trilogy by Margaret Atwood, or movies like The Book of Eli and MadMax. I want to talk about why we, as in society, keep creating and consuming media, about post-apocalyptic and dystopian worlds. There are personal faves, The Leftovers, and Battlestar Galactica (yes, it is sci-fi but it counts) and there are comedic attempts like The Last Man on Earth and blockbuster shows The Walking Dead and The Last of Us. Why weren’t people talking about The Last Ship and Revolution the same way? No, I haven’t watched the entirety of either series and I gave up on The Walking Dead after (spoiler alert) Glen got pummeled by Negan. Traumatizing events of The Walking Dead aside, I want to explore these stories and revisit some that I’ve abandoned.
I’m curious about how Scandal ends, do Olivia and Fitz get their Vermont cabin dream? Something tells me no, but I’m rooting for those two. Mainly, I’m going to use this space to get thoughts out about TV and films that are taking up too much space in my brain. It may be inconsistent but it will come. We may get academic about it, explore themes, get nerdy, and talk about the use of a great flood in ancient and religious texts and how they inform the stories we tell.
